(1915–2005) a US writer of plays. They include ↑Death of a Salesman and A View from the Bridge (1955), both of which won the ↑Pulitzer Prize. In The Crucible (1953) he used the story of the ↑Salem witch trials as a symbol of ↑McCarthyism, which he strongly opposed. Miller was married to Marilyn Monroe from 1955 to 1961 and wrote her last film, The Misfits (1961), which is the subject of Miller’s later play Finishing the Picture (2004).
